Hot and hilly run

This morning I woke up ready to run.

I slept at my friend Paige’s house last night, and when we got up this morning, she got ready for work, and I laced up my running shoes. I ate a little pre-run fuel in the form of an apple, played with her ADORABLE new puppy, and headed out for a three mile run in her neighborhood.

Any morning that starts off playing with puppies is a good one. This is Cooper, and he is an 8 week old Morkie. I think I confused him for a toy about eight times last night, he is SO tiny, and only weighs two pounds.

The Run

SO, after I played with that cutie, I took off in Paige’s neighborhood. I was actually really excited to run in a new place for once. I am so used to running in my neighborhood, and it is getting quite boring. It was nice to run, and not know exactly where I was going.

I covered 3 hilly and hot miles.I thought I was being smart and beating the heat by leaving for my run at 8 am, but apparently I’m going to have to go earlier from now on. I guess it finally changed to Summer here in Maryland.

I was a sweaty mess by the end of this run, and dying for my water bottle.

After you complete a run using the Nike Running App, it lets you select whether you ran on the road, beach, trail, or track, and how you felt about your run using different smiley guys. It’s pretty awesome to be able to look back on all of your runs and see why you might have been going faster or slower than your average pace. The only reason this run got a so-so smiley face is because of the heat, I think on my future summer runs I’m going to have to choose paths with water fountains to keep me hydrated.

I loved running in a Paige’s neighborhood so much, that I decided I am going to make it a goal to run in a whole bunch of new places this Summer :).

After my run I went back home to make myself breakfast. I was feeling eggs, which is odd because lately I have been all about sweet breakfasts like: yogurt bowls, smoothie, or anything involving Peanut Butter. I decided I should take advantage of this odd craving and go with it.

I’m so glad I did because the egg and cheese breakfast sandwich I created was the bomb.

It was just a whole wheat English Muffin, two egg whites, a little bit of onion, one baby bell light cheese, one piece of turkey, and a little bit of avocado. Voila, a yummy and satisfying breakfast sandwich! I was devastated when it was gone… after two minutes. Oh, and those are my Gummy Vites next to the sandwich, I wish you could eat five a day instead of two.

Now I’m off to start putting everything back into my room that my Dad just re-painted for me, I’ll be back to tell you more about that!

Currently Survey

Good Morning!

I am still very new to the Blog World (first week!), and one of the aspects of Blogging that attracted me to read new posts were the occasional fun surveys that went viral! It’s so fun when you see a group of your favorite Bloggers all doing the same one. So, now that I have my very own Blog I am so excited to be able to participate as well :).

I saw the “Currently Survey” first on Peanut Butter Fingers and then a few days later on Carrots n’ Cake. Btw- these are my two absolute favorite blogs, I read them daily! But, lets get to it:

Current Book:

Right now I am in the process of reading the Help. I have this weird addiction to reading books once I find out there going to become movies, it’s like a race to finish it before the movie comes out or something? It’s a thrill for me. I’ve done it with all the Twilights, The Hunger Games, The Great Gatsby, Safe Haven, The Lucky One, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The list goes on and on. However, this is the first book I am attempting to read after already seeing the movie. My sister Amy read it, and said I had to read it even though I’d already seen the movie. So, I’ll keep ya posted on whether I like it or not.

IMG_2832 Current Music:

I am currently obsessed with two different songs; It’s Time by Imagine Dragons, and Beneath your Beautiful by Labrinth Featuring Emeli Sande. They are two very different songs, but both so good! I may or may not have listened to Beneath your Beautiful three times in a row this morning…

Labrinth Current Guilty Pleasure:

Lately I have not been able to get enough of ice cream/fro yo/ smoothies, anything cold creamy and delicious! Must be the summer heat :).

Current Nail Color:

Essie Fiji and Essie Set in Stones.(ignore my stubby fingers)

Current Drink:

Water on water on water!

Current Food:

Peanut Butter Banana Smoothies, YUM!

Current Favorite Show:

So you Think you Can Dance. So, so good. Check out this guy Fiction, craziness. I swear he is a robot and not human.

Current Wish List:

I am in desperate need of a new makeup bag for my Bare Minerals.

Current Obsession:

Head bands. I just bought my first Sweaty Bands head band, and I am already planning the million BIC bands I am going to purchase.

Current Indulgence:

I’m about to purchase a Groupon for a pedicure ;).

Current Blessing:

My family.

Yes my Dad is double fisting in that photo.

Current Outfit:

Right now I am wearing a Victorias Secret bathing suit, because it is 90 degrees outside and I am getting my tan on. I’m actually taking turns tanning outside while reading The Help, and writing this blog post :). Spanky’s tanning too.

Current Excitement:

My upcoming trip to Israel!!

And there you have it, my list of what I love currently. First Blog survey: Check!

Workout Playlist

Hey Friends, Happy Tuesday!

I saw this little guy on Twitter this morning and it instantly put a smile on my face, so I thought I’d share. You’re welcome :). Baby Penguins may just be one of the cutest things ever, and they always remind me of my friend Makenzie!

Anyways, back to business. I had plans of waking up early to run 3 miles this morning, but when I woke up my body didn’t agree with the plan. I was still in a food coma from all the delicious Memorial Day treats I consumed yesterday. Sooo, I skipped my morning workout in favor of afternoon one, and eventually forced my butt out the door around 12 pm.

However, I still just wasn’t feeling it and even thought about just going to the gym instead of running. After some mental debate I sucked it up and decided that I would at least try to get into my run, so I took off. About 2 minutes into my run I had already gotten into my running groove, and I think that I have my running play list to thank for it!

So, without further ado here it is:

Running Beast Mode Playlist (don’t make fun of the title, I’m lame I know)

When I was making the links for this playlist I watched the music video for Radioactive for the first time. If you’re thinking about watching it, don’t, unless you want to get creeped out by fighting stuffed animals. Very Strange.

I think I have my sister Amy to thank for my obsession with listening to Eminem when I work out. Eminem and the rest of this running playlist also caused me some serious motivation at the Alexandria 5K a couple days ago!

My run ended up being awesome, a little slow, but still awesome and I covered just three miles. I had no stops, with the exception of a minor one just to take a picture of baby ducks.  🙂 Another reason this run was awesome, is that I officially have run 100 miles since I started using the Nike Run app on my phone!

Question for ya: What’s your favorite song to run to?

My favorite running song changes all the time, but right now it is definitely I Just Wanna Run by The Downtown Fiction.

Warrior Dash

I’m back for the recap of the second half of my Sister fun filled weekend.

If you haven’t guessed from my title the second half of our weekend revolved around the Warrior Dash! But, Let’s back up a little to Friday night first.

Pre- Race Feast

Now, I’m sure that our pre race dinner was not the most healthy carb filled race preparation meal. But, it sure was delicious. We ate italian pasta salad made with tri-colored noodles, and then we each had a Morning Star pizza burger. We split an english muffin and each ate our burgers with one half of the muffin, plus some tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Credit to Kaite for that awesome idea. Just look how delish it looked:

We both went back for second of the pasta salad, it’s just too good. After dinner we met up with Katie’s boy friend Eric and they took me to their favorite fro yo place in Arlington, Fro.ZEN.yo. How clever is that name? Although, it wasn’t my beloved Sweet Frog it was still amazing. I mean it is pretty hard for me to dislike any frozen yogurt.

Our night concluded with a New Girl marathon on Katie’s couch.

Day 3

We woke up a little bit after 8 am french braided our hair (well Katie did all the braiding since I am incapable), put on our matching neon race shirts (yes we were complete twins), ate a quick breakfast of a peanut butter and banana english muffin, picked up Eric, and hit the road for Mechanicsville. Our car ride was spent jamming out to my running playlist to pump us up, but according to Eric the only pump up song I had on it was Titanium. Psh, He clearly doesn’t get inspired by old school Eminem and the Beibs.

Before the race we met up with Katie’s friend from college and his family. They gave us even cooler neon shirts to wear for the race. Check em out.

How snazzy are those? We certainly didn’t lose sight of each other during the race thats for sure 🙂 We got to the Warrior Dash (which is basically an awesome 3 mile race that is filled with tons of mud and fun obstacles) at around 11:30, checked in, and began our dash at around 12:15.

It’s kind of funny because me and Katie were both a little bit terrified before the race, but for two completely different reasons. I was terrified I was going to not be able to complete some of the obstacles due to me being absolutely terrified of heights, and Katie was worried she wouldn’t be able to keep up with the running parts of the race. Luckily, we were both scared for no reason and finished the race in one piece. Although, there was some scary high up obstacles that had me worried for my life! Here we are after the race all muddy and soaked.

Props to Katie for completing her very first race!! So proud of my little runner 😉

The race was by far the most awesome race I have ever done and really pushed me passed my fears. My adrenaline was pumping and I’m happy to say Katie and I completed every single obstacle!

Surprisingly, the obstacle that caused the most pain was the one that looked the most fun. Tt was called the “Petrifying Plunge” and was basically a ginormous slip and slide. Since Katie and I are so little we absolutely sped down that thing and bounced all over it. I don’t know how to describe it except that I started on my booty and ended face first on my stomach into the pool of water at the bottom and was then forced into an accidental warrior dash flash. Word of advice: if you ever do the warrior dash wear a tight shirt that will help avoid this completely embarrassing situation. Katie assured me that no one saw phewww. I’m pretty sure I have that slide to thank for my ten battle scars, but it was so worth it.

After the race we went back to Katie’s friends house and enjoyed tons of yummy food before heading back to Arlington. Now this time I was sure we were just going to have a chill night at her apartment since we were completely wiped out from the dash. But nope, once again Katie convinced me into going out in Arlington again, she can be very persuasive as well. So, even though we were exhausted we took showers, got all cute and headed out. Excuse the blurriness, but this is our yay we got Molly into a bar with Amy’s id photo:

For my family members that are reading this, the above photo doesn’t exist and we totally just had a chill night at Katie’s apartment after the race 🙂 Buttttt if you aren’t a family member this picture was followed by a celebratory round of shots 😉 Our night ended ordering pizza before passing out. Perfection.

We woke up pretty late the next day, had the best bagels ever at some small place in Arlington, and then Katie drove me back home. I had the best weekend with my sister and can’t wait to visit Arlington again very soon. Love you Katie!

Sister Weekend (minus one)

Hey there!

Horray for my first blog post EVER. I read blog posts daily including my sister Amy’s and have been wanting to make my own for some time now. SO, I decided it was finally time to jump on the bandwagon and start my own blog that follows my life, and specifically how I attempt to stay healthy and fit :). And, what better way to break into the blog world than with a post about my awesome weekend with my sister?

I spent the weekend in Arlington with my oldest sister Katie, and our weekend was filled with all of my favorite things: family, running, chipotle, fro yo, beer and shopping, oh and did i mention chipotle?

The weekend started early for us when I met up with my sister at my Dad’s softball game in Bethesda. Unfortunately, his team lost. I guess me and Katie were bad luck charms? Oops, sorry Dad. But who knew how adorable old men playing softball could be?

After the game my parents headed back home and I went with my sister and her boy friend to Arlington.

thought we were just going to go back to her apartment and have a chill night watching the American Idol finale. But nope, katie had other plans for us and once I heard them I didn’t mind too much :). We decided to meet up with her boyfriend and his friends and go to their favorite little bar in Arlington, obviously I was down.

Katie and her friends come here so much that their names are plaqued on the wall. Embarrassing? Nope, awesome. It ended up being country night and my sister and I had too much fun belting the lyrics to multiple songs. We just couldn’t help it, I mean how can you hear Red Rag Top and not start singing? Oh, and I also discovered a new talent I have. Apparently I rock at Darts, who knew. Me and Katie’s boy friend Eric were the champs of the night. We don’t mess around.

Please note the photo bomber in the back. Well done my friend, well done. We left the bar and headed back to Katie’s apartment to pass out, but not before stuffing our faces with wheat thins and hummus… at least it was kind of healthy right?

Day Two

We had some shopping plans for the next day, but somehow amazingly enough, we managed to squeeze in a workout before that! Well it was sort of a workout. We woke up a tad bit sluggish I must admit, but powered through and went out the door to attempt to run 2 miles while exploring Arlington.

Well, I don’t know what we were thinking because as soon as we got outside it was pretty clear the two of us were not currently capable of running two miles. Who were we kidding? But, it’s ok because my sister gave me a good tour of Arlington, and we even walked our hungover behinds all the way across the Key bridge into Georgetown 🙂 Walking still counts as a good workout right?

Well, after seeing about a billion runners around the bridge I got jealous and  was feeling the need to sweat sooo, I told Katie we had to run at least one mile. I can be very persuasive. She agreed and we took off up Lee Highway. But, we were not aware that running back into Arlington from Georgetown consisted of a sea of hills. Hills + heat + hungoverness = hate. So, our run turned more into a run/walk, but we finished strong and stopped by my sister’s boyfriends house were we CHUGGED two full glasses of water and were told we looked like tomatoes, rude.

After we went back to her apartment and showered it was time to head out to the mall, but not before a lunch break at my favorite place in the world: Chipotle. Okay, maybe not my favorite place in the world but definitely up there, I am 100% positive I could live off burrito bowls and guac. YUM.

It was my lucky day because my sister had a buy one burrito bowl get one free coupon, and her sweet soul let me have it 🙂 I ate it before snapping a picture because I had been deprived of chipotle for quite some time before that. However, I did manage to take a picture of Arlington’s interesting yarn trees. Almost as good? And, yes I said yarn trees. Sorry I was a little too fascinated with these babies.

After my necessary photo shoot with these creative tree socks, my sister and I headed out to Tyson’s Corner where we spent entirely too much money. Although, Katie spent more 🙂 To her defense she does have a beach trip coming up, and obviously you need pretty much a whole new wardrobe for summer beach trips. Don’t worry, I understand it Katie.

We  came back and had a chill night involving a New Girl marathon and a carb load because we were preparing for the Warrior Dash on the following day. But, I’m about to head out to a body pump class with my friend Emily, so I’ll be back soon with a recap of the second half of my Sister weekend!
