I’m Back

I have been a very bad blogger… I haven’t posted in what, like a week?

Ahh I’m sorry I had a super busy week. But don’t worry I’m back, and I have tons of posts coming your way!

I had no time to post this past week because last weekend revolved around Amy’s graduation festivities, and then I went to the beach for 5 days.

Phewww I am happy to be home, and excited to get back to blogging with you fine people ;).

Ok- quick recap of my time at the beach- I went to Ocean City, which is only 3 hours from my house. My Grandma owns a condo there and I have been spending time there every Summer for my whole life. I seriously am in love with the place. I spent the week sun bathing, reading (finally finished The Help), eating an insane amount of cookies (um peanut butter Oreos), indulging in Thrashers French Fries, and eating as many scoops of peanut butter as I pleased.

My time at the beach honestly only included running, eating too much yummy food, and hanging out with my family. SO, instead of boring you all to death with all the details I’ll just show you a collection of pictures that explains my trip perfectly.

Oh, and being at your Grandma’s condo = discovering fantastic throwback photos such as this gem with my sisters and brother:

I hope you forgive my terrible blogging week, have a good day!

Happy Summer!!

Happy first day of Summer, friends!

Even though I’ve been on Summer break for more than a month, you better believe I still celebrated this wonderful occasion :). And, it made it just that much better that the first day of Summer included absolutely perfect weather all day long.

I celebrated the first day of Summer with 2 outdoor runs, one in the morning and one just now; this evening! I ran 3 miles both times for a total of 6 miles today… a new record!

The first picture is from my most recent run and the second one is from this morning. Today was Amy’s graduation (Yay Amy!!), so I had to wake up extra early to sneak a run this morning… hence the terrible looking little smiley guy in the above picture, it reads “felt tired”. Well duh I was tired, I woke up at 6 in the morning…. it was terrible. But, as always I was happy I did it after I completed my run.

When I got back from my run I ate a quick peanut butter banana smoothie (shocker), showered, straightened my hair and left for Amy’s graduation. I’ll tell you all about that later this weekend ;).

I also spent my day yesterday doing something fun and Summery, and it resulted in me crossing another thing off of my Summer to-do list, 2 in one week I’m on a roll! I have officially accomplished hiking and picking fresh fruit.

I spent the entire day shopping with my Grandma who just got into town, and then we met my cousin Tammy and her adorable son Joshua (who you guys met on the blog yesterday) at Butler’s Orchard to pick strawberries.

We went right at the end of strawberry season, so the fields were pretty picked over and the majority of the berries that were left were either rotten or bug infested. It was an adventure to find enough strawberries to fill up our box. But, we were on a mission since we were planning on using some berries to bake something for Amy’s party on Saturday.

Joshua was my designated berry picker ;).

He was too cute, he loved picking the strawberries and eating them. Every time we turned around he had another one in his mouth. It’s safe to say his skin was stained red at the end of the day.

When we were done picking we went into the store to pay for our berries and to get some slushies, because they make the best fresh fruit slushies. No lie. I look forward to them all year. The one they had yesterday was apple strawberry. I got mine and Joshua decided he wanted one too, he got so excited when Tammy said he could have one, he even started clapping lol. I let him model it for me ;).

I had a great day with my cousins, and really want to go back to Butlers this Summer for some blueberry picking (my fave). I’ll be back soon with a recap of Amy’s graduation festivities :). Have a great weekend.

Great Falls

Yesterday I did something I love to do, that I don’t do nearly enough; hiking.

I’ve been talking about how I’ve been wanting to do this for so long, but the previous times I wanted to go the weather just didn’t allow it. Now I can finally cross it off my Summer To Do list. Although I still want to go more!

I woke up at 8 am ate a quick Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie, and met my friend Paige at her house. We left around 9:15 and headed out for Great Falls!

Great Falls is an awesome park about 40 minutes away from where I live, it has beautiful natural waterfalls that are part of the Potomac River.

It was supposed to be sunny day, but it was cloudy like the above picture the entire time we were hiking. It wasn’t too bad though, because that meant it wasn’t unbearably hot. It was the perfect temperature for hiking.

There are 3 different look outs to see the Falls, and they are all amazing.

There are so many different trails to choose from, and we were a little overwhelmed at first when we had to decide which one to take. So, we went in the visitors center and the woman advised us to take the River trail because it follows right along the Potomac River and there are tons of beautiful rocky look out spots.

Our day adventure at Great Falls included:

  • Missing our exit and ending up having to pay a toll at Dulles airport
  • Seeing a baby deer and momma deer
  • Playing in some pot holes
  • Watching someone nearly drown!
  • And seeing tons of beautiful views from the rocks 🙂

Let me explain in detail…

We couldn’t get over in time for our exit and ended up getting stuck on the Dulles airport exit where we were forced to pay 1.75$ at a toll, good thing Paige had quarters in her car. The guy at the toll was making fun of us pretty hard… luckily we were laughing at ourselves as well.

Later, when we were hiking on the River Trail, we saw an adorable baby deer with a Momma deer right off the path.

Also right off the path were some natural pot holes which clearly resulted in Paige and I taking a photo shoot inside them.

And, the most crazy thing we saw was when we went off the hiking path to climb some rocks to get another view of the falls. From up there, we watched 3 groups of boats (filled with kids) white water rafting. When all of the sudden this little kid flopped out of the boat! Thank goodness he was wearing a life jacket because he fell off right in an area with a super strong current, the boat he fell off of couldn’t even turn around to get him. Luckily there were other boats behind the boat he was on, so they picked him up. But I’m pretty sure I had a heart attack watching this. Thank God he was ok!

After about an hour of hiking and climbing I was hungry so I ate my favorite kind of Clif Bar; Macadamia Nut! They are seriously so good, they taste just like cookies.

I love love loved Great Falls, and wish we could have stayed longer to hike more of the paths. Paige had to work at 3 so we were only there for a couple of hours. I am already planning my next trip there :).

When I got home from Great Falls my baby cousin Josh came over for a couple hours, he just got his very first hair cut! isn’t he the cutest? He also just started talking last week and he was trying to say everything. He clearly didn’t want to be in my photos.

Spanky also greeted me when I got home, he was fresh out of surgery from getting his teeth cleaned, and he was still a little woozy. He kept either; falling asleep standing up, or in this lovely position.

Have a great Thursday and stay strong its almost the weekend!

Tanning and Target

Good Evening!

I feel like I haven’t written a normal post in such a long time, I’ve been holding out on you guys!

Let me get back on track and fill you in on my day.

I didn’t have to work today, so I woke up around 8:30 and went on a 3 mile hilly run around my neighborhood.

When I got back from my run I ate the Overnight Oats that I prepared the night before. I always add a 1/2 a banana to my overnight oats in the morning, but this morning I came back to a banana-less house. I was depressed. But, then I found a full box of big, fat, juicy blueberries and my depression was instantly lifted :).

After my oats, I gave Spanky another bath (you can see how the last one went here). And, then spent the rest of the day reading The Help, while tanning on my deck. Spanky was catching some rays as well.

For lunch I tried to be a little chef and create a seafood salad with the leftover crabs and shrimp from our Father’s Day feast. Did I mention Crabs are my absolute favorite food like ever?

Oh, and old bay on crabs = complete happiness. I remember when I tried to tell 2 of my friends from North Carolina how much I loved Old Bay and they had never heard of it. Um what? They were seriously missing out all their lives. They have obviously have since been forced by me to eat it.

I mixed whole wheat pasta, shrimp, 2 picked crabs, and some avocado. However, it didn’t turn out so well. I don’t think the combination of avocado with seafood was one for my tastebuds. Ya win some ya lose some. I did enjoy eating it on my deck while sunbathing though :).

When my Mom came home we went to Target with a plan to buy just one thing: Divergent. I have been wanting to read it for so long. Everyone whose read it loved it, and said I had to read it! I finally have it and I can’t wait to read it at the beach next week after I finish The Help.

Obviously we bought more than just that book, because it is impossible to go to Target and just buy one thing. I ended up getting the book, a super cute high low blue dress that I am planning to wear on Friday to Amy’s graduation, some more of my favorite Vanilla Whey protein powder, strawberries, and bananas (thank goodness).

After Target we went to Kohls because I needed some new polos for work. Annnnnd again, ended up leaving the store with more than I planned on getting. I also got a cute hot pink running tank and some plain black running shorts. I couldn’t resist :(.

I was so excited about my new running gear I decided to run 2 miles as soon as I got home to test it out. It was another 3 miles plus 2 miles = 5 kinda day.

Now I’m off to watch the episode of Real Housewives of New Jersey I missed from last night, have a good one!

Question for ya: What is your favorite food of all time?!

Mine is a 3-way tie between: anything with peanut butter, crabs, and pasta salad.

Crab Feast on Fathers Day

I hope everyone had a great Fathers Day!

I worked Friday night, all day Saturday, and all day yesterday, so the only exciting thing I have to catch you guys up on was my Father’s Day!

I got off just in time for a crab feast with my family (crab feasts are in my top 5 favorite things in the world, I do live in Maryland after all).

Originally I was upset I was scheduled to work all day on Fathers Day, but my parents actually went to the beach and didn’t get home until yesterday afternoon anyway, so it worked out.

Our meal started with fruit salad.

Then the crabs, first of the season! SO GOOD.

And for dessert, home made macadamia nut cookies, my Dad’s favorite. I may or may not have eaten like 5.

Happy Fathers Day Daddy, I love you!!!

Ten Things That Made Me Smile This Week

I forgot to write up my Ten Things Thursday Post last night, so better late than never!

Ten Things That Made Me Smile This Week

  1. I finally ran outside of my neighborhood (my neighborhood is pretty long, and I have always felt to intimidated to run outside of it).
  2. This nice letter I got in the mail that informed me I placed fourth in my age group at The Alexandria 5k I ran a few weeks ago, it even came with a prize of a 10$ gift card to Potomac Running. Awesome.

3. I am going to be here in about one week.

4. I kind of sort accomplished my goal of running 5 miles. It was broken up in to two miles and then 3 more.

5. I went shopping this week and got two verrrry cute new summer outfits, you’ll see them soon :).

6. This old man.

7. It took me a while to get into it, but the Help is finally getting good.

8. Catching up with my Grandma on the phone, I can’t wait to see her in less than a week!

9. This very very strange face juggler photo my sister sent me. Whose Who ;)? Kind of freaked me out more than smile actually.

10. And, lastly being able to spend Monday- Thursday off from my job!

Question for ya: What was one thing that made you smile this week?!
