Great Falls

Yesterday I did something I love to do, that I don’t do nearly enough; hiking.

I’ve been talking about how I’ve been wanting to do this for so long, but the previous times I wanted to go the weather just didn’t allow it. Now I can finally cross it off my Summer To Do list. Although I still want to go more!

I woke up at 8 am ate a quick Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie, and met my friend Paige at her house. We left around 9:15 and headed out for Great Falls!

Great Falls is an awesome park about 40 minutes away from where I live, it has beautiful natural waterfalls that are part of the Potomac River.

It was supposed to be sunny day, but it was cloudy like the above picture the entire time we were hiking. It wasn’t too bad though, because that meant it wasn’t unbearably hot. It was the perfect temperature for hiking.

There are 3 different look outs to see the Falls, and they are all amazing.

There are so many different trails to choose from, and we were a little overwhelmed at first when we had to decide which one to take. So, we went in the visitors center and the woman advised us to take the River trail because it follows right along the Potomac River and there are tons of beautiful rocky look out spots.

Our day adventure at Great Falls included:

  • Missing our exit and ending up having to pay a toll at Dulles airport
  • Seeing a baby deer and momma deer
  • Playing in some pot holes
  • Watching someone nearly drown!
  • And seeing tons of beautiful views from the rocks šŸ™‚

Let me explain in detailā€¦

We couldn’t get over in time for our exit and ended up getting stuck on the Dulles airport exit where we were forced to pay 1.75$ at a toll, good thing Paige had quarters in her car. The guy at the toll was making fun of us pretty hardā€¦ luckily we were laughing at ourselves as well.

Later, when we were hiking on the River Trail, we saw an adorable baby deer with a Momma deer right off the path.

Also right off the path were some natural pot holes which clearly resulted in Paige and I taking a photo shoot inside them.

And, the most crazy thing we saw was when we went off the hiking path to climb some rocks to get another view of the falls. From up there, we watched 3 groups of boats (filled with kids) white water rafting. When all of the sudden this little kid flopped out of the boat! Thank goodness he was wearing a life jacket because he fell off right in an area with a super strong current, the boat he fell off of couldn’t even turn around to get him. Luckily there were other boats behind the boat he was on, so they picked him up. But I’m pretty sure I had a heart attack watching this. Thank God he was ok!

After about an hour of hiking and climbing I was hungry so I ate my favorite kind of Clif Bar; Macadamia Nut! They are seriously so good, they taste just like cookies.

I love love loved Great Falls, and wish we could have stayed longer to hike more of the paths. Paige had to work at 3 so we were only there for a couple of hours. I am already planning my next trip there :).

When I got home from Great Falls my baby cousin Josh came over for a couple hours, he just got his very first hair cut! isn’t he the cutest? He also just started talking last week and he was trying to say everything. He clearly didn’t want to be in my photos.

Spanky also greeted me when I got home, he was fresh out of surgery from getting his teeth cleaned, and he was still a little woozy. He kept either; falling asleep standing up, or in this lovely position.

Have a great Thursday and stay strong its almost the weekend!

Summer To- Do list

Good Evening, friends

I am on a roll today, I think this is my third post!

I’m writing up this blog post while tryingĀ to watch The Bachlorette, but for some reason I kind of hate this season. I am actually surprised I dislike it so much, because I really liked Des when she was on the Bachelor with Sean. I don’t know what it is about the season! Maybe it just seems so much more fake for some reason. Does anyone else feel this way?

Anyways, before I tell you about all of the stuff I want to do this Summer, I need to fill you in on my delicious creation I made for lunch earlier today.

Lunch

When I got home from the gym, my stomach was grumbling so I got started on my lunch. I made a tuna salad type meal with the addition of a few ingredients you may think are odd to be mixed with tuna. But just trust me on this, it’s so good, and so much healthier than your typical tuna salad.

Tuna Bowl

To make my lunch I used the following ingredients:

  • 1 can of Tuna
  • 1/4 of a stalk of celery
  • About a tablespoon of Grey Poupon Spicy Mustard
  • 1 Hard Boiled Egg
  • A little bit of Onion
  • A handful of Chick peas

You just mix it all together and Voila! I know it sounds weird, but don’t knock it till ya try it ;).

A little while later I chowed down on some Pineapple Greek Yogurt, my new favorite kind.

Dinner

For Dinner, I made a simple chicken wrap with salsa, baby bell cheese, and onions.

And, for dessert, a fruit bowl.

Now for my, whats coming up this Summer list!

June 21st- Amy’s Graduation from her internship

June 22nd- Amy’s Graduation party

June 23rd- My parents 30th Anniversary dinner

June 24th- 28th- Beach with Amy and my Grandma

July 15th-25th Israel with my friend Emily!

July 30th- Beyonce concert with Katie

I have tons of fun stuff to look forward to this Summer, and on top of all that here’s a list of other things I hope to do in between all that fun stuff:

1) Go hiking. I have been wanting to go hiking for seriously SO long, it needs to happen! Hopefully I will get a chance to go to Sugarloaf Mountain and Great Falls.

2) Pick fresh fruit and go to a Farmers Market. Can you believe I’ve never been to a Farmers Market? I know this will happen this Summer because there is one right by my house and Amy loves to go, so I’m pretty sure I can convince her to go on a Sister Veggie Date.

3) Go to either an amusement park or a Water park. The last time I went to an amusement park was my 9th grade Physics trip to Six Flags. UM, this needs to change. I don’t even know if I’m still scared of roller coasters haha!

4) Read the Harry Potter series. I am in love with all the movies, but have never read the books. Wendy and John gave me a kindle this past Christmas, so I plan to read them all on that.

5) Read Gone Girl and Divergent. Amy is currently reading Gone Girl and says IĀ haveĀ to read it, so I’m down. I have also been told by so many people that if you like the Hunger Games (which I do), then youĀ haveĀ to read Divergent, so I’m going to. I guess I should probably finish The Help first…

6) Finish my Senior Year scrapbook. Yes, I still have not completed my scrapbook from 2 years ago :(.

7) Go to an OriolesĀ andĀ Nationals game.

8) And, lastly, I want to run a 10k!

What are your plans for the Summer?!
